Snow makeup days approved:
The following calendar changes were approved by the Polk County Board of Education during its monthly meeting on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010: Students will attend school Friday, April 2, Thursday, June 10, and Friday, June 11, as snow makeup days. Friday June 11 will now be the last day of school.
Saluda School will also attend school this Saturday, Feb. 13, to make up for the additional snow day missed this week. |

![]() Matt Holt, a 2005 graduate of Polk County High and a 2009 graduate of North Carolina State University(NCSU), was featured in the Winter 2009 issue of NC State for his role in co-creating, funding and staffing New Sense Studios, an after-school program that provides a creative outlet for at-risk teens in Raleigh. Holt graduated form NCSU in December of 2009 with a degree in Landscape Architecture. As a student at Polk County High School, Holt was active in the school's agriculture program and, for his Senior Project, he created a diagram of the landscaping at the high school and installed a mail box outside of Principal Greene's office that contains copies for folks to pick up to learn about the design. Attention Polk County Schools' parents/guardians and students: The U.S. Department of Education has issued new requirements about race and ethnicity identification of students in public schools for all states. The new categories used to report ethnicity and race were developed by the federal government to give a better snapshot of the ethnic and racial diversity of our nation.

You may request and receive the following information on any elementary teacher or teacher assistant: Whether the teacher has met State qualifications and licensing criteria for the grade and subject(s) taught; Whether the State qualifications and licensing criteria have been waived for the teacher; The college degree(s) of the teacher including the college major; Also if your child is receiving services of a paraprofessional (teacher assistant), that person's qualifications.
